Chapter Two

This chapter introduces the characters; Peter Keating, Guy Francon, Shlinker, and referred to is Henry Cameron.

Peter Keating’s introduction is a window into his thoughts during the his graduation. He is graduating from the top of his class and he believes everyone looks up to him for his mind, hard work and looks. He is very competitive and because of this he has risen to the levels that he has. I found him very self centered and arrogant but maybe not without reason. He may not be a bad guy but what goes on in his head is very unattractive to me. But his outward appearance is calculated by him and blessed by god.

Guy Francon is is the main speaker at Peters graduation from Stanton Technical Architecture school. He is a member of every board and organization dealing with architecture in the country and a graduate of Stanton.

Henry Cameron is also a graduate of Stanton and once very well respected but now works in a small firm on the water front. I get the feeling that Peter finds Camerons work  obscure and forgetable. And should be considered beneath his classmates and himself especially.

Shlinker is the number two person in Stanton’s graduating class of 1922. He had been ahead of Keating at times but by graduation Keating had pulled ahead. They are competitive but close friends as well. My first impression of Shlinker is that he is a genuine person.

One of the more interesting parts of this chapter was the contrast between the way Keating found it enjoyable that Roark had been expelled. In his head this was another talented person that he had beat in his quest to become the best. But once he got home where Roark is a border he ask him advice on one of the most important decisions of life so far. He treated him like a friend and not someone he would enjoy watching fail.
